     The owner, Susan "Suzy Sholty" Verellen developed the idea for The Handmade Market as a venue for herself and other vendors to sell their wares.

     I grew up in Lafayette and raised my two sons before leaving town to explore other locations. After an absence of twenty plus years, I retired back here to my home town. After trying my hand in other stores, I decided to try my hand at the ownership side of a craft store. The Handmade Market is the outcome.

     In 2005 my father past away from the effects of Alzheimer’s. Within six months my mother moved to independent living at Westminster Village in West Lafayette. While liquidating her large home for her move to her three-room apartment, I came across a box containing all of the letters that Dad had written to my mother during his tour of duty in Europe during World War II. Reading those letters made me realize that I had a wealth of information at my finger tips and I needed to write it all down so my family and their families would know about this extraordinary man and his wife and children he loved so much. Thus, the book “Doc, He Was My Dad” was born and is now available for purchase at The Handmade Market.

      my two sons are married and have each blessed me with a grandson and a granddaughter. Being a grandmother of four has been and is a wonderful experience.
